The new Mini Dirty Shirley half stack is an incredible all Tube Amp from Dave Friedman. Designed specifically for fat sounding classic rock and roll, the 20 watt Mini Dirty Shirley head puts vintage crunch similar to Led Zeppelin, ZZ top and Van Halen to a beautiful shimmering clean right at your fingertips. It comes standard with a series FX loop and 3 position gain switch.
The Mini Dirty Shirley features the same preamp section as it’s 40 watt big sister, the DS-40, in front of a dual EL-84 power section. This all tube guitar amplifier features all that incredible, high gain tone Friedman amplifiers are known for in an adorably compact package. When fully cranked there is about as much gain on tap as you get from the Brown Eye – another great Friedman amp. While the Dirty Shirley Mini is a single channel amplifier, it is a versatile and dynamic amp (especially thanks to the 3-position gain switch and effects loop). I will clean up nicely if you back off your guitar’s volume control.
To dial in great tone it’s recommended to start with the following settings: Use low input with the Bass maxed, Treble & Presence at Noon, Mid at about 2:00, Master at 10:00 and Gain at 2:00. This will give you that Big- fat Zep tone. From there just crank the gain to see what’s available. Then just play with the gain switch and tweak to taste. For a big, open Crunch Tone or a nice Clean, just lower your guitar volume. The Dirty Shirley is so dynamic there is no need for a second channel. Sounds great with any speaker combo- but killer with the Celestion Creamback in the matching 1×12 cabinet.
