James Tyler guitars have long been known for their unparalleled feel and tone. James’ keen insight into how things work, and what players want is the main reason Tyler Guitars are coveted by top session players and artists worldwide. Now with the launch of James Tyler Guitars Japan, the same great quality and feel of the USA Made Tyler Guitars is available at a more reasonable price point. Obviously these things ain’t cheap – And they aren’t some cheap knockoff either. These are real James Tyler guitars built in Nagano, Japan. Workers from the ASKA factory were specially trained in California at Tyler Guitars’ headquarters to build the guitars using exactly the same processes and techniques from the origanal Tyler CAD drawings. Even James has trouble telling the two versions apart. What does all this mean? I am sure the internet will have plenty to say about it, but the bottom line is that Jim Tyler is a picky MF’er and he approves of these things. I’ve played them and I approve – otherwise I would not have ordered them. If USA Tyler Guitars are “Built in American by Assholes” I suppose you can think of these James Tyler Japan models as “Crafted in Japan by Ninjas”. Just superb!
The Studio Elite embodies the essence of the Hot-Rodded California Super Strat. A true player’s guitar, it has a contoured neck heel with a deeper cutaway on the treble side for easier access to the upper frets. The SSH pickup configuration and mid boost preamp give it an incredible range of tonal versatility. And that neck- The Tyler Guitars neck has a feel to die for. Not once have I ever had someone pick up a Studio Elite and say it wasn’t the most comfortable guitar they have ever played- No matter how much they disliked the headstock (which I don’t personally- I just think you have to evaluate the Logo and Headstock separately).
While Tyler guitars are built using state-of-the-art technology including computerized milling machines, lasers, 3D modeling stations, and aerospace engineering to ensure the utmost quality and precision, James draws the line to make sure that it never takes precedence over “the human factor.” Technology remains a tool in the hands of expert luthiers, and never a human replacement. This determined balance of modern technology and old school tradition ensures every James Tyler guitar feels like an old friend when you play it for the first time.
