The top of the line Gibson L-5CES was introduced way back in 1951 as Gibson’s premier archtop electric guitar. In 1996, responding to the demand to produce a more price-friendly alternative for the working player, Gibson introduced the L-5 Studio. Identical in design, bracing and scale to its spendy cousin, the L-5 Studio is also fitted with a solid, hand carved top and back. Spruce for the soundboard, Maple for the back, sides and neck, and an Ebony fingerboard. The same in every way as the more expensive L-5 CES, but with paired down cosmetic decoration for a more reasonable price point. Produced in limited quantities over just a few years, the L-5 Studio is now one of the rarest versions of Gibson’s premier jazz guitar, and certainly the most affordable ever.
This particular example is in great shape, and all original. Like all our used/vintage gear it has been tested for functionality and priced to move. Sold as-is. What you see is what you get. There are no serious issues, damage, repairs, or modifications, though it does show heavy hardware oxidation (we polished it up as best we could) and cosmetic evidence of being played over the last 27 or so years. If you are looking for a museum grade collector piece this may not be the best option, but if you are looking for a true player’s piece in very good shape overall – including excellent tone, playability and functionality, then this is a great choice. Just through our shop for a complete “the works” setup with fret dress, clean/test electronics, and general overall clean bill of health. READY TO ROCK (or Jazz, or Blues, or whatever you want to play with it)
