Sparkling Cleans and Classic Rock to Modern High Gain tone!

The TripR  from Carol Ann Amps is an 18/15 watt version of the TripTik. Like it’s big brother, the Carol Ann Trip-R is also a 3 channel beast- A true rock amp capable of tones ranging from timeless classic rock to balls out modern high gain.

This is not a ‘’clone’’ of any other amplifier out there- the Trip-R is a truly original, back to the drawing board design. The low end is crushing and super tight. The gain structure is unique too. It does not cram a bunch of cascading gain stages up front in order to over-compress the life out of your tone, nor does it use any type of solid state clipping. Rather, the overdrive from this amp is generated by running each gain stage at its absolute extreme- Like a fine tuned racing engine. This helps preserve the dynamic range, keeps noise to a minimum and emphasizes the harmonic overtones of each note without ever sounding bright or harsh.

The Clean Channel redefines what is capable from EL34 power tubes. Unheard of shimmer and incredible headroom are both standard here. Although a ‘’pushed’’ tone can easily be achieved by nudging up the pre-gain control for a little more growl. This channel also takes pedals extremely well.

Two identical overdrive channels are also standard- Each with ‘Classic’ and ‘Modern’ voicing switches. The ‘classic’ setting has more of that 70’s / 80’s British rock voice with a very wide and complex sound stage. Not buzzy or brittle. The ‘Modern’ setting has more gain and low end, perfect for modern, heavy rhythm tones and dropped tunings. This channel also makes for a superb, liquid lead channel with incredible sustain and harmonic bloom. The tone controls of each channel are very effective and the center points (12 o’clock) are set at the exact frequency to cut through any mix.

The Carol Ann Trip-R comes loaded with a pair of EL-34 power tubes, but it can also be operated with a pair of 6V6 power tubes to lower the output level to 18W. The cathode biased design has a slightly softer feel with a little more compression than the higher powered Triptik.

The basic goal with the Triptik and TripR is to have an amp that will reproduce your favorite modded rock amp tones as well as up to date modern higher gain tones without mush and noise. As with all Carol Ann amplifiers, the Trip-R is built entirely by hand and features a non-PCB main audio board, and hard wired chassis mounted controls and tube sockets.
