The Collings SoCo is named afer Austin’s funky and eclectic South Congress Avenue and it incorporates elements from both the I-35 and CL models to create a unique hybrid that is all about attitude! Make’n Music is extremely happy to have the Collings SoCo 16 LC available for sale! Finally- A guitar designed from the ground up to nail the classic, vintage tone of a Gibson ES-335 -style semi-hollow electric guitar. Like all Collings instruments, the SoCo 16 LC is a work of beauty, but this 16″ wide, ”LC” version with it’s laminated construction and wider lower bout (like the original vintage Gibsons) proves that the secret to that tone is indeed in the unseen details. Sonically, these Lamiate Construction guitars have a little more of that “airy plink”, whereas the original-style SoCo and I-35’s with their carved solid wood construction have more of a chambered, solid-body ”mid range cut”. All are great instruments. Every detail of these Collings instruments is perfect- from the workmanship to the playability and tone.

Cosmetically speaking the Collings SoCo 16 LC is a truly beautiful instrument. It has a classic, vintage-style look and the classic Single Cutaway body style is very classy indeed. Upon closer examination all the things that make a Collings Guitar a true work of functional musical art become aparent. The fit and finish is flawless, the fretwork is perfect, even inside the F holes everything is neat and tidy. There aren’t even any sanding scratches on the endgrain at the top of the headstock. Is this necessary to the functionality or tone of an electric guitar? Not necessarily, but it sure does go to show how seriously Collings takes instrument construction. The tone is beautiful as well. Size-wise the SoCo 16 LC is a full 16″ across the lower bout- Just like a Vintage Gibson ES-335.
