Shaw is well known for his work designing many of the classic Gibson humbuckers and his expertise dates far back in the history of humbucking pickup design. The result of his efforts—the “Shawbucker” humbucking pickup—is an electrifying new landmark in Fender pickup design.

The Shawbucker open-coil humbucking pickup delivers unprecedented tonal dimension, with more overtones, snarling mids and balance. It’s paired with single-coil pickups in the middle and neck positions for desirable Strat sparkle and plenty of vintage warmth. A special “Dual 250k/500k” Volume Potentiometer allows the true sound of the humbucker as well as the clear sparkle of the single coils to ring true. Like other guitars in the American Standard lineup, the Shawbucker HSS Stratocaster features a modern neck designed for comfort and performance with a modern “C”-shaped profile and a smooth satin-finish back. The fingerboard is constructed with a 9.5” radius medium jumbo frets and comfortably rolled edges for instantly “broken in” feel and exceptional playability.

For superior intonation, sustain and ease of adjustment, American Standard guitars also feature modern bridges with upgraded features. This two-point tremolo Stratocaster bridge has bent steel saddles and a special copper-infused block for even greater sustain and more fluid tremolo action. Staggered tuners are designed with tuning posts decrease in height from low strings to high strings, which increases the break angle of the strings over the nut. On American Standard guitars, the D, G, B, and high E string tuning posts are set lower than the A and low-E strings, creating a greater string angle that improves performance and helps eliminate buzz.
