Örn Custom Guitars Mjõlnir
Viking Series Single Cutaway
Custom Hand-Made Electric Guitar
NAMM Show / Boutique Guitar Showcase Featured Instrument
Gunnar Örn Sigurðsson (aka “Gunni”) has been making Orn Custom Guitars by hand in Reykjavík, Iceland for over 20 years. His unique instruments often draw inspiration from Icelandic nature and Norse heritage, but one of the most interesting aspects of his guitars comes in the way that Iceland’s most famous geological phenomenon is utilized in the building process. The guitar bodies are actually submerged in a scalding hot volcanic spring and rubbed with mud, which nourishes them with natural minerals and gives the wood a unique look that’s akin to old leather… It’s not an easy process and it can be dangerous, the water temperature often exceeds 100 degrees Celsius, but it helps to capture the old worn-leather look of the Viking uniform.
This particular instrument is the Mjõlnir model from the “Viking Series”. Its familiar, single cutaway design features a 24 ¾” scale length. It is constructed from hand-selected woods like Honduras Mahogany and Ebony, adorned with Aluminum plates and fitted with Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups, Gotoh bridge and tuners. In addition to its “Volcanic Spa Treatment”, the guitar is embellished with the “Helmet of Awe” symbol inlaid at the 12th fret and a custom cast “Hammer of the Gods” tailpiece behind the bridge.
This instrument was displayed at the NAMM Show in the Boutique Guitar Showcase. Please note: A case was not provided but a premium gig bag will be included with purchase.
