Boutique Offset Electric Guitar
Hand-Crafted and Custom Made
Makoto “Nick” Sugimoto has been designing and hand-crafting fine guitars and basses since 1976. He spent many years working for Fujigen – one of Japan’s premier instrument manufacturers – before founding his own company “Sugi Musical Instruments Ltd.” In 2002. His focus has always been to hand-craft instruments of the highest level without compromise in craftsmanship, sound or playability. Sugi Musical Instruments has grown to become a recognized force in the Japanese music scene. Their extreme attention to quality and detail, coupled with innovative original designs, is recognized by leading professional musicians.
This particular model is a custom ordered Rainmaker in Sunburst. It is hand-crafted using genuine, Old Growth timbers recovered from underwater after being submerged for 75-150 years. The timber was 200-500 years old when it was originally harvested, so what you have here is some seriously old wood of a quality impossible to find today in any other way. Wood this nice simply does not exist anymore except from rare sources like this. The body is chambered Mahogany with a Spruce top. The neck is Maple with a Rosewood fingerboard. The hardware is high quality including Gotoh vintage-style locking tuners and a Wilkinson tremolo. This neck is super comfortable! It’s a very even taper “C” profile – on the slimmer side but not unusually thin. Very nicely rolled fingerboard edges and exceptionally nice detail work on the frets and nut also contribute to the excellent feel and playability. We have a humbucker in the bridge and Tele pickup in the neck position. The electronics are straight forwarding with Volume, Tone and 3-way selector. Satin finish with an elegant burst and binding. The fit and finish on this guitar is at the very highest level – On par or better than the finest boutique manufacturers.
This guitar is used, just in on consignment from one of our regular long-time collector clients. The condition is immaculate without any obvious or noticeable signs of use. There may be some very minor, superficial marks if you are looking with a scanning electron microscope, but overall nothing serious to mention. No major issues, damage or repairs. Like all our used/vintage gear this has been tested for functionality. Sold as is. What you see is what you get, including the original high quality gig-bag case, paperwork and tools. 7.6lbs
