Marshall-style Overderive, Power Scaling, Great Tone!!!

Just in on trade and in immaculate condition. The only signs that this has been used might be visible with a magnifying glass. It’s very clean. There might be a few small marks if you look close- but nothing serious. Works and sounds killer! I was told this was recently serviced by Suhr and upgraded to the most current spec at that time. It sounds as good as any Badger 18 to me! Like all our used / vintage gear this has been tested for functionality and priced to move. Sold as-is. What you see is what you get.

John Suhr may be best known for the outstanding line of Suhr Guitars, but Suhr Amps have really started to take off as well. When you built a boutique, hand-made, custom tube amplifier as nice as Suhr does I guess you would expect it to be a popular choice ;-). The Suhr Badger 18 imparts a distinctly British flavor with it’s EL-84 output section. It’s not a clone of any particular vintage amp. It features a unique design with a very broad range of sounds covering a wide tonal spectrum from clean to overdriven.

The Suhr Badger 18 is a tube amp that offers unmatched flexibility with it’s defeat-able Drive control (pseudo master volume), defeat-able Power Scaling feature for great cranked amp tones at low volume levels, and a tube-buffered effects loop. This amp will work around your sweet spot, unlike most tube amplifiers that make you work around theirs.

Unlike external attenuators or load boxes, the internal Power Scaling does not alter the relationship between the output tubes and the speakers. Tube life will be increased. What you get is improved transparency, less squash, a more natural and pleasing compression, and the sound of the power tubes working hard.

All that plus the tube-buffered effects loop with a fixed level send for use with both instrument-level pedals and line-level rack effects and you’ve got one very versatile tone machine ready for a variety of environments and musical situations.

The Suhr Badger 18 is an 18 watt, all-tube guitar amplifier driven by a pair of cathode biased EL-84 tubes in the power section with a 5Y3 tube rectifier. The Badger 18 delivers a variety of full, punchy cleans and rich, tight dynamic overdrive tones. Whether playing a large stage, small club or your home studio, Badger’s Power Scaling feature provides added flexibility.

POWER

Power Scaling emulates the tonal response of a high wattage amp on 10, at manageable volumes. Power controls the voltage that feeds the output section and in turn, the wattage. As you lower the voltage of the power section you are reducing the amount of signal it can handle before clipping the output section. To compensate for this we use the “Drive” control so you can easily scale down to 1 watt without losing tone & feel.

DRIVE

Feeds the input to the power section. With Power at 10 it acts as a master volume. As a rule of thumb, when you turn down the Power always set the Drive control within 2 numbers of the Power setting. If you set the drive lower than the power it will sound brighter, like a “master volume” amp.

GAIN

Controls the amount of preamp gain by controlling 2 cascading gain stages simultaneously to drive the input stage.

TONE CONTROLS

Bass, Middle and Treble tone controls for each channel are post-gain and passive cut-style. We recommend starting around 5 and dialing to taste. As you increase Gain and/or Drive we recommend dialing back the Bass to retain clarity and definition in the low-end.
