Ryan Thorell Style A
Hollowbody Archtop Guitar
Custom Boutique Electric Guitar
Used! Just in on consignment! This beautiful, world class handmade guitar by luthier Ryan Thorell is just in from one of our regular collector clients, and it is a superbly cool instrument.
Luthier Ryan Thorell is known for his skillful blends of traditional, organic, and modern elements, creating a very natural look and feel. The “Style A” is unique creation blending the Offset Body style with fully carved, Archtop construction. This guitar features a hand-carved and finely tuned European Spruce soundboard which is X-braced and fit to a one-piece acoustically tuned, fully hollow Walnut body. The humbucking pickup is made in house and controlled by thumb wheels for volume and tone, which are stealthily mounted to the underside of the pickguard. Ebony appointments are used throughout with a fixed ebony tailpiece design.
Acoustic Punch with Gain and Sustain! The guitar employs all of the finer elements of archtop guitar building into an instrument that feels like a light weight, full thickness carved top electric guitar. The tone is rich, thick and loud. It growls acoustically and howls (in a good way) when cranked through an amp. Surprisingly full, responsive and dynamic.
The neck is hand carved from Flame Maple and the fingerboard is Ebony. It is very comfortable with smaller frets but plays extremely easy. The neck joint is a traditional dovetail set with hide glue. Dimensions are 1.75″ nut width and approximately .830″ – .900″-ish in depth. Ryan Thorell also uses carbon fiber reinforcements and an American made, precision milled two-way adjustable truss rod. The nut location is further reinforced with rear headstock veneers for a seamless and break resistant transition. The scale is 25.5”. String Spacing @ the bridge is 2-1/16″. I believe these are Robson tuners but they could be Schertler. They are lightweight and extremely accurate. Hard case included.
Like all our used/vintage gear this has been tested for functionality and priced to move. Sold as-is. What you see is what you get. The condition is superb without any serious issues, damage or repairs. This is a well-cared-for, collector owned instrument. It has been played and shows evidence in the finish but no fret wear or anything like that. The top finish has shrunk back some and now displays some very fine, pin head sized bubbles, or dotting. This is not damage, but it may have become more evident over time. Anyway, very difficult to see and too small to show in photos. It does not affect the tone or playability and isn’t very noticeable, but you can see if you look for it.
